Conimbriga Ruins

Conimbriga is situated 16 km south of Coimbra. It was a point on the Roman road that came from Sellium (Tomar) and made its way to Aeminium (Coimbra).

This is an impressive Roman city with magnificent houses, gardens, beautiful fountains, dream-like mosaics, forum, springs, columns, walls and a superb aqueduct. It is still surrounded by the original walls.

There is an early Christian burial ground and a set of hot springs.

There is a Monographic Museum near the archaeological site. The museum shows beautiful statues, busts, tools, coins, jewels and small reconstructions of the city and the life of the Romans.
