Pedro Fernandes received the Lic. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Coimbra, Portugal.
He is currently an Assistant Professor at ISMT, Coimbra, and a Researcher with the Institute of Systems and Robotics, University of Coimbra.
Since 2007, he has been participating in several projects.
His research interests include Intelligent Transportation Systems, intervehicle communications, mobility and traffic simulations, information management, information security and cibersecurity, autonomous vehicles, platooning, mobile robotics, Internet of things, smart cities, multi-agent systems, and simulation methods applied to intelligent systems.
He serves/served as Associate Editor of ITSC 2024, 2023, 2022, ITSC 2021, ITSC 2020 and ITSC 2019 - IEEE Intelligent Transportation System Conference (ITSC), as Associate Editor of the IV 2024 - IEEE Intelligent Vehicles Symposium, as well as a member of the IPC of CISTI (2020, 2019, 2018, 2017), of CAPSI 2015, and IEEE ICVES'07.
Dr. Fernandes is an expert evaluator of Horizon 2020 European Projects, and is involved in COST Actions evaluation as well as reviewing processes of large scale European projects.
Dr. Fernandes participated in two COST Actions: as member of several Work Groups of the COST Action IC1303 “Algorithms, Architectures and Platforms for Enhanced Living Environments” (AAPELE), and as member of the Special Interest Group (SIG) on Visible Light Communications (VLC) of the COST Action IC1101 “Optical Wireless Communications – An Emerging Technology” (OPTICWISE).
Dr. Fernandes is member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) (Intelligent Transportation Systems, Communications, Computer, Education, Robotics and Automation, and Vehicular Technology Societies), and the IEEE Standards Association.
